Hello fellow “ordinary guru” seeking community members. Unassuming gurus oftentimes show up to give you a push off that wheel that’s spinning wildly but taking you nowhere. Have you ever been caught up on such a wheel? Owen is wondering if he’s on such a wheel right now (see below)
Hi Mr. White,
My problem is that I work hard at the same job five days a week, but after three years of the same old routine, I feel terribly bored. My boss doesn’t offer me a new position. I want to be a star in life. What can I do about this?
I like your answers because they are different than what I expect.
Thank you, Owen
Several hamsters were running like hell on their running wheel, huffing and puffing the faster they ran. When they all jumped off, completely exhausted, one of them said, “round and round we run until we’re so tired that we can barely stand up. Yet, no matter when we dismount the wheel, have you ever noticed where we’re standing? It looks just like the place where we mounted the wheel an hour ago?” “Yes,” responded another hamster, “You’d think the great hamster in the sky would have come up with more than 1,000 same looking landing-places for us to visit when we stop.” Another hamster chimed in, “I am really quite amazed at how uncreative our great hamster in the sky can be.”
Get off the treadmill, Owen. Stop waiting for the world to change for you. If your world is to change, you must change. Running in circles is boredom. If you’re interested in stardom, you’ve got to pave your own unique path. That requires taking risks. Do you trust yourself enough to do that?
Blessings to you Owen, Rob
If the sameness of your day, in any way, continues month in and month out, and you feel as though nothing new is coming of all of it – perhaps it’s time to jump off the treadmill. Doing the same thing again and again can only give you what you’ve always gotten. How could it be otherwise?
An exciting life is never a repeat performance of last month and the month before that. Let your aim be to invite newness into your life, and you will never be bored. But, to do that requires you get involved beyond what others suggest you do. This is about you. Dare to cast your vote for newness.
Blessings & love to all of you, Rob
Ps Every time you try something new, you start life all over again. That’s the thrill!
