Hello Fellow “Guru Search Community” members,
Might I offer myself up as an ordinary guy in this blog?
Just a regular guy that every once in a while has some good guru advice to share?
I was speaking with a homeless drifter In Santa Cruz, Ca. this week. He was a Yale graduate, got into drugs, and now was trying to find himself. (age 30 or so).
The man told me that he was a Downstream Drifter. I asked him what that meant. He said it meant that he was looking for the easy way to rich living. I asked him how Downstream Drifting was working out.
He said, “So far I’ve only landed on dreary shores.”
T’was a moment of consternation. Silence prevailed.
And then I said, “Never agree to wrong terms if they aren’t working for you.”
The drifter clapped his hands, laughed loudly and responded, “My God, that is so obvious, but yet I guess I haven’t learned that lesson.” He went on to say, “I’m not even sure what that statement means, and yet I think it is profound.”
We both laughed, and I admit that it just came out of me spontaneously. And then I proceeded to give him two fifties. He shook my hand warmly, nodded and ambled off down the lane.
Here’s the lesson I taught myself from this wonderful experience: A full cup of liquid must precede the thirsting-quenching drink. I suspect I offered him a full cup of wisdom that must precede his thirst-quenching breakthrough. (That is if he sips on what was spoken between us long enough).
What might that to do with you?
Well, have you ever agreed to wrong terms of living?
For example – Have you agreed to take advantage of someone at work, hoping to get ahead … or … have you agreed to tell a tall tale to look good at a party?
In the end, how’d that work out for you?
Did you learn your lesson and stop such foolish behavior … or … did you try it again and again?
We all make mistakes. We all flirt with wrong terms of living, hoping for a shortcut for succeeding. Each wrong term offers a great lesson. It also offers a wonderful opportunity to grow strong by moving beyond such foolishness.
Ponder this for a moment. Relate it to something that you did in the past. There is a rescuing fact to be found if you’re willing to look. One true realization can eliminate one hundred foolish false assumptions that have you agreeing with yourself to wrong terms of living.
Blessings and Love, Rob
PS – Soon I am going to offer a limited opportunity for a few of you to work directly with me. Together, in short order, we will bring your perspective about yourself and your future higher. Like an airplane that soars above the cloud, when your perspective is higher your visions become clearer. Clarity brings power!
