Hello my friends and members of the “Ordinary Guru Search Community.” Might I offer you a tip that Ordinary, Unassuming, Everyday Guru offered me while I was vacationing in paris?
Tips like this one come from folks like you and me who happen to say the right and perfect thing in a moment of inspiration. It’s when a person shares a Golden Truth in the moment that can make a world of difference in how you conduct your life if you happen to be actually listening.
“A great way to be supreme to circumstances in your life is to be superior to those thought-habits that try to dictate your life for you.”
It was a warm August day in Paris, and it was a sweet older woman (in her late eighties), that taught me the above great lesson. She didn’t actually speak those words to me, but she demonstrated them.
This wonderful lady had caught her heel in a swinging door at the hotel in which I was staying. She immediately stopped, composed herself, smiled brightly, shook her head and then said to me, “I’m not going to panic. That’s what I’d ordinarily do. I’m just going to take off my shoe and let the doorman fetch it to me as I sit in the lobby. She did precisely that. But it was I that brought her the shoe. It just felt like the right thing for me to do.
What’d I get from this?
I thought about this experience a few times, over the next day or so, when suddenly it came to me! What had she taught me? “A great way to be supreme to circumstances in your life is to superior to those thought-habits that try to dictate your life for you.” That’s what she taught me. I’ve used that lesson many times when I’ve caught myself reacting mechanically to a situation that had me feeling stressed.
“Thank you, thank you,” I say to that sweet lady. She has no idea what a great lesson she taught me.
Thank you for participating with me on this “Guru Search” journey. Perhaps you have a great lesson an unassuming guru offered you? Email it and I’ll post it here.
Blessings and Love to you … and again … HAPPY 2017, Rob
PS – By the way, the Best way to confirm a Golden Truth is via personal experience. Apply this lesson to your life the next time you feel stressed. You may be startled with the wonderful results you get.
