Hello my fellow tribesmen.
Question: What is our common bond as a tribe member of this website?
Answer: To pick up the baton and declare ourselves “The Maestro” when it comes to our lives. Imagine orchestrating your life so it unfolds according to the melodies you write.
It is time for another perfect story of an ordinary, everyday, unassuming guru that passed my way and offered me a wonderful golden truth?
My pet Yorkie (Chou Chou) wants a new toy every day now that the winter months are approaching and it’s getting cold outside. She goes to the closet, where the toys are stored, and scratches.
Why does Chou Chou do that? What is it that she wants? Is it the pleasure of a new toy?
The answer to the above question is, “No, she doesn’t want a new toy for the pleasure of playing with it. She wants a new toy to move away from the boredom of the day when it is too cold to go outside and play. Come spring, and with it the warmer weather, she will no longer scratch at the closet door for a new toy.
WOW! That’s a great lesson. Think about it. What’s that got to do with you and me? Certainly we are not Yorkies scratching at a closet door looking for a new toy, are we? Or are we?
Well, it’s a strange thing but a lot of folks look for a new dramatic event to throw their lives into when they are bored. Rather than come up with a mission that would give them the feeling of pleasure, they jump into one drama after another (day after day) in hopes of avoiding the pain of boredom. The drama is the new toy for the day.
People get caught in soap operas to avoid the pain of boredom, but unfortunately they are also missing the pleasure of getting on with their lives in a productive fashion. They don’t realize what they are doing.
Do you do that? Do you get into foolish squabbles with your colleagues, or with your spouse, or with the neighbor to avoid the boredom of having nothing to do? Have you realized yet that if you find yourself constantly caught in petty matters in life, it’s because you have not set a sight for yourself that truly set your heart aflame? And so what you’re doing is no different than what my Yorkie does to avoid the pain of boredom.
Have I ever scratched at the closet door looking for a new toy? (Have I ever started stupid trouble just to avoid the pain of boredom?) You bet! But not anymore. Start noticing how you may do this, and you are on your way to letting go of squabbling habits that waste your precious time and your creative energy.
Thank you, Chou Chou. You are my Guru for the day.
Blessing and love to you, Rob
Ps – Hey folks, perhaps you can offer a comment or even send me a story of an everyday, ordinary, unassuming guru that has come your way. Much appreciation. There’s a lot we can learn when we share lessons that unassuming gurus offer us. I hope you’ll jump in and share.
