Do you ever feel as though your mind is working against you? Do you find yourself dwelling on things that give you a knot in your stomach or have you feeling resentful about your life? And yet you can’t seem to stop thinking about those things?
What most folks don’t realize is that the mind need not be a machine that mechanically churns out the same negative thoughts day in and day out. Your mind can become your best buddy. It can become a source of good cheer and inspiration rather than a source of belly aches and perspiration.
So what do you have to do to turn the mind so it favors you? What can you do so you no longer allow anger or resignation to control you? The answer is easy. Nothing motivates you other than the pursuit of pleasure or the avoidance of pain.
Start counting the cost you pay by allowing the mind to keep you in misery with old memories of failure and fearful vision of an unproductive future. WOW, can that kind of mechanical thinking harm you emotionally and physically. Did you know that depression is an unnecessary emotion? So what do you do to avoid such pain?
You begin by paying attention to the cost you pay for letting your mechanical mind run away with opinions and ideas that cause you to feel depressed. Just by noticing the pain your thought-habits inflict on you, you will be motivated to look at yourself and your life from a new point of view – one that gives you pleasure. The moment you become conscious of the pain your mechanical mind is inflicting on you, you awaken to the fact that there is something you can do.
If you’re willing to begin this process, the next step after that will come easily to you. It’s like changing a light bulb that has been out for years. Let there be light! And with the light, your mind becomes your best buddy, helping you take new flight so that you might soar to that mountaintop that has always been in your sight.
