The fabulous first correction to cure a bad attitude is to imagine that you’re a butterfly. It’s a healthy affirmation to remind yourself daily that you are no longer a caterpillar. Why crawl through life on the ground when you can flitter through life in the air?
The purpose of an affirmation is to arouse your attention in the right direction. Without imagination, you are reduced to living a life of old habits. Learn to take pleasure in self-revision. Learn to revise your self-visions so they have you looking beautiful and living lightly like a butterfly. Every successful self-revision is a victory over the hardened-self that has you slowly crawling through life. Holy moly – crawling slowly will never get you where you want to be!
The battles we fight to live beautifully and right are always fought out first in the imagination. When we FEEL victory there, life is always fair.
“Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.” Romans 14:5
Connect to this butterfly metaphor. Use it as a daily affirmation. Make your day belong to you, and not to useless ideas that slow you down and make you feel like you’re crawling on the ground.
