I see “Freedom” as a three-part experience, to be complete:
Part I: Freedom FROM …
Part II: Freedom FOR …
Part III: Freedom TO …
Freedom FROM past conditioning – this is a big one. So many of us get so ensnared in our mechanical reactions that we cannot tell the difference between being reactive and being creative. Only when we are free from past conditioning, can we be creative. And only when we are creative are we truly being human.
Freedom FOR authentic self-expression – the true delight of experiencing life is found in authentic self-expression. If we aren’t free to express our authenticity in all that we say and do, then the prime purpose for experiencing life in physical form is lost. The power of being human is the ability to say, “I AM that I AM” and deciding what that “I AM” will be.
Freedom TO be your authentic self and nothing but your authentic self, no matter what the world may demand of you – this freedom is what gives us the exhilarating experience of SWEET LIBERTY. It is what the United States of America stands for (I believe). Allow no one, no social organization, no political affiliation to pressure you into being other than what you want to be. When you give up this sweet liberty – you give up your life, and no one can give it back to you.
You are born with these three freedoms. Learn to live with them, and treasure them until you die with them. If you do that, you will experience what is often spoken of in spiritual texts as “the ultimate experience of unlimitedness.” When you experience your unlimitedness, you experience your natural existential self. Now, that’s a total spiritual high that cannot be duplicated by any other means – not drugs, not alcohol, not sex, not fame, not power, not material riches can give you the satisfaction that the feeling of your unlimitedness gives you.
