This blog offers information that I’ve learned from my parrot, Shakespeare. Shaky (short for Shakespeare), has been with me for some thirty years now. Amongst the many lessons he taught me, one of my favorites is his demonstration of how to Aspire Higher by setting S.M.A.R.T. Goals.
Shaky is a confident bird, not shy and very direct about getting what he wants. He knows how to get results without wasting a lot of time. I have learned to use his S.M.A.R.T. strategy to do the things I need to do in order to make my dreams come true. And now, over the next five blogs, I am going to share this secret with you.
S.M.A.R.T. is an acronym for Shaky’s five-step process of right living:
Simple … Meaningful … Action … Responsible … Tuned in
Day Four: Responsible
Today, we are going to look at the third step – Responsible
We do real well for ourselves only when we know the nature of self-responsibility, and it does not include self-strain. Being responsible is fun. It means you’re in charge of your life. That, right there, is a meaningful endeavor – taking command of your life. When I hand Shakespeare a carrot and he climbs up his perch to eat it – sometimes he drops it. He doesn’t look at me to pick it up and hand it to him again. In fact, if I do that, he’s offended. He’s a fully functioning parrot. He’s responsible for picking up what he drops.
When you find yourself failing, hold yourself accountable for changing your action. See the difference between blaming and refining. They are two very different things, aren’t they? When you hold yourself responsible, you lose your beloved tears, BUT you come up with solutions. Say now, “If it is to be, it is up to me … and I am responsible to see to it that I stick to it.” Say it every time you falter and need to refine what you are doing. Right there – that’s SMART to do.
When you are S.M.A.R.T. about your aims and aspirations, you create clear conditions so the manifestation penetrates your reality without complication. Stop loving the noise of your own mind; be S.M.A.R.T. Make it clear to yourself that you live by the Law of Self-Responsibility. Drop the fluff.
