I had the good fortune of meeting a dynamic young man this week. During our conversation, he mentioned, “I wish more than anything else to understand myself so I can stop harming myself in subtle ways.” He went on to say that sometimes he frightened himself because he was not sure what he would do next to cause stupid problems in his life.
This young man graduated from MIT and started a computer business. The business was netting him over a million dollars a year, but he was miserably unhappy. He wanted to take his life to a higher level than simply ‘putting his nose to the grindstone’, making money, and bullying his employees (his words). He felt something was missing; he no longer felt enchanted with life.
I told this young man that his wish to understand himself is one of the greatest wishes I’ve ever heard. I went on to say that ‘understanding’ is everything, and understanding oneself is the indeed, the ‘grandest understanding’ that anyone can achieve.
I offered him this illuminating tip: You will never harm yourself when you understand yourself.
The above tip is true about anything that you understand: that which you understand cannot frighten you, and consequently, cannot harm you. Take a moment to ponder this. When you understand it, you will hear a chain drop!
A person who takes the time to understand himself is like a lighthouse of safety in humanity’s stormy sea. An understanding mind is a bright beacon of guiding light. This person not only helps himself tremendously, he also helps others in astonishing ways.
It used to puzzle me why so many folks refuse to look deeper into their own nature. I now understand that many Folks fear to look at themselves because they secretly believe they will see badness. Seeing badness is madness- it just ain’t true!
Honest self-facing offers understanding that creates a fabulous compass. When you understand the truth about yourself, you naturally know the right course to take in all domains of your life. You no longer block your own progress.
Do you understand that you are marvelously made and destined to win at whatever you set your mind to? Do you really understand what this means? Adding this one truth to your deep sense of knowingness will banish many erroneous notions and injurious ideas that your subconscious is holding onto about you. You will hear another chain drop!
This young man asked me (about himself), “Who am I?” I told him that he is what he values, and if he values the idea of being marvelously made and destined to win at experiencing the goodness of life – then it shall be! If he values the 60,000 NO’s that he heard between age two and six, then that will be so! I then asked him, “What kinds of thoughts take center stage in your mind all day long? … that is what you value.”
I offered him one more Illuminating tip: Do not let raving echoes of past NO’s smother your efforts of creating yourself anew!
Please share your thoughts. What tips might you offer this young man? He will be reading your responses. What have you learned from the blog about yourself that may help him learn more about himself?
Thank you and blessings
